OUSIA
Bringing to light ancient Mesopotamien culture through contemporary design.

Ousia collection is a collaboration between Sizar and his sister Sinar Alexis, a project connected to their heritage.

Bringing together historical research and contemporary design. We believe in retelling a small part of this ancient culture through these ancient-inspired artifacts of furniture in a modern form.

The furniture of the Mesopotamia civilization is described as being richly decorated with golden cloths and gilded wood or metals. In the British museum, there is a Sumerian standard box of Ur which is believed to be dated between 3500 and 3200 BC, with shell inlays that illustrate chairs and thrones.

In A throne, kursi, an elaborate seat, chair, or stool symbolized the divine or its representative like a god of kings in the east. So people only with authority were entitled to it. Only the king was seated, others just stood around.

The cone shaped feets of the chair are inspired by the many reliefs excavated that depict gods or super beings holding a bucket in one hand and a pine cone in the other. The pine cone is associated with regeneration. And the levels are inspired by the ziggurat and its terraced compound of successively receding levels.
