LAHMU
Lahmu was my contribution for the Discovered project initiated by Wallpaper* magazine & AHEC, was exhibited at the Design Museum in London in September 2021. Inspired by the core values of touch, reflection, and strength.
In April 2020, upon returning from the maternity ward, my wife and I isolated ourselves to safeguard our newborn son from the pandemic. My association with bunkers stems from my family’s experience during the war in Iraq when we sought refuge in a room functioning as a bunker in our home. This resonated with the situation of fighting an invisible enemy.
Our apartment turned into a protective bunker during isolation, influencing my work of bunker inspired furniture as a reflection of my emotional connection.
Drawing from the parallels between my own childhood and my son’s experience, I crafted two sculptural furniture pieces symbolizing these two worlds. Named Lahmu after a Mesopotamian protective deity, it embodies the idea of warding off demons and sickness.
